THE MINI BEGINNING

My Miniature horse program began with 5 mares and a stallion. They were a nice group but I soon decided that I wanted something different. I knew that in order to be successful in selling minis that they would have to stand out and catch people's attention; not just in size, but in conformation and color. After I had attended many sales and seeing the popularity of the pinto and appaloosa miniatures, I noticed that there were not any loud colored Overos. Some had bald faces or a belly spot, and high white on their legs, but none were the loud framed patterns that are so popular in the full size paints. So that was it, "a horse of a different color", a "medicine hat framed overo" in miniature.

About 1 year later, I was introduced to a lady who I became good friends with. As luck would have it she was having trouble with a mare that wouldn't let a new foal nurse. Imagine my surprise when I went to help and saw that the foal was a Medicine Hat Overo! After a little more then a year she was no longer able to keep them and I decided to buy her herd. I actually only wanted 3 but had to buy 17 in order to get those main 3. So my overo breeding program began in miniature. By studing the various color patterns and using horses I thought were good matches, I concentrated on breeding for overos in every generation. Of course conformation was my first goal, which made this project alot tougher as there were no overos available to pick and chose from. The next step was to breed them down to the popular size of 34" and under.

Success came on my birthday in the form of a beautiful black /white Medicine Hat Framed Overo colt whom I named LTD's Magic Man. I immediately knew this was going to be my main herdsire. Magic Man had it all, conformation, overo color and the small size needed to continue on. I could not wait for people to see him and so he is what officially started my show career in miniature.
